Webinar: Generating Great Dialogue in Lessons with Will Ord
Monday 18th March 2024 4pm UK
How can we encourage young people to engage thoughtfully in class discussion? How can we get them to listen well and actively respond to others’ contributions, not just ‘wait their turn’? How can they create questions which have some depth and curiosity behind them? This talk will explore what converts mere ‘class conversation’ into learning dialogue whereby pupils generate understanding, not just knowledge. There will be lots of take-away activities for pupils of all ages, so come prepared for some fresh approaches!
Will Ord has thoroughly enjoyed working in education for 30 years. After his time as a Head of Religious Education teacher and Associate Lecturer at Oxford Brookes University, he created Thinking Education Ltd, a teacher training company based in England. This has allowed him to work with schools in over 20 countries.
Will has always loved the P4C (Philosophy for Children) pedagogy, and he has been Chair of SAPERE, the UK’s P4C charity. He was Professional Officer for the Association for Citizenship Teaching, and has written several text books as well as the Citizenship column for the Times Educational Supplement. He posts articles on Linked In when time allows.
Will passionately believes that young people need to learn how to communicate and argue well together. There are many urgent challenges we all face in this century, and how we tackle them collectively is going to be of paramount importance.
