We recently hosted Professor Stephen Heppell who talked about the importance of creating learning spaces which are conducive to learning.

Professor Heppell concentrated on a few simple tricks schools can use to improve the learning spaces they have, even without much financial investment.

  1. Light: yes, it is important to make sure you have the correct light bulbs but simple things as getting more natural light in is also important.
  2. Noise: noise absorbing panels might be needed but also hanging umbrellas upside down (students can bring their own and decorate them) can also be an efficient tool
  3. Temperature and humidity: open the windows and ensure that the temperature is between 18 and 21 degrees Celsius. To reduce humidity, avoid rugs.
  4. CO2: as you can imagine rooms full of people can have high levels of CO2. perhaps you can put some plants in the room.

you can watch the full talk here: https://vimeo.com/255193167/da2e6ac001

with some examples of schools which have tried some of these tricks.
